Bar Leaders' Resource Guide

You are a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Board of Governors, Chair of the Association's Young Lawyers Division, or Chair or Co-Chair of one of the Association's Sections or Committees. Your leadership position within the oldest association of lawyers in the United States is vitally important to the Association and the members you represent. As part of our leadership team, your work will bring credit to the profession and enhance the Association's role in the community.

The accomplishments of our Sections and Committees - and the mark they leave on the legal community and our region - is driven by the energy and resourcefulness of the Chair or Co-Chairs. Consider the following questions:

  • What goals will you set and what is your timetable for achieving them?
  • Who will you reach out to in the legal community? The greater Philadelphia community?
  • With which other Sections, Committees or business organizations can you partner to enhance the impact that you will make this year?
  • How can you be most effective in working with the Bar Association and its staff to best serve our members?
  • How will you foster diversity and inclusion in your Section, Division or Committee?
  • How can you add value to membership and increase membership in the Association and in your Section, Division or Committee?
  • How will you help members of your group build their practices and develop and use leadership skills?

This Resource Guide will help you answer all of these questions.

The Chancellors, Officers and members of the Board of Governors, the Association's professional staff, and your own Division, Section and Committee members are ready to help you. Association members have joined your Division, Section or Committee because they are interested in the subject area and/or programs offered. Harness that interest and their energies to achieve your goals.
